PRIORITIES
Tacoma On the Go envisions a Tacoma where everyone can walk, ride, bike, and roll with dignity. We are Tacoma’s resource, convener, and advocate for safe mobility for all.
In accordance with our mission and vision, we support measures which:
● Increase ease, efficiency, and accessibility
● Increase safety
● Increase connectivity
● Reinforce a compact, urban core
● Reflect the “green transportation hierarchy”
● Are based in authentic community input and partnership
● Address systemic inequities and historic disinvestment in low income and communities of color
While our work is focused on Tacoma, we often engage with Pierce County, particularly in the Parkland & Spanaway area around Pacific Ave / SR-7.
Current Priorities
Addressing Systemic Disenvestment
Crash and equity index data indicate that Tacoma’s South, South End, and East Side neighborhoods are disproportionately impacted by traffic violence and other impacts from high speed, high traffic arterials including air pollution, high rates of asthma, and noise pollution. These neighborhoods are also home to more BIPOC, immigrant, and low-income communities than less impacted parts of Tacoma, perpetuating the consequences of redlining, exclusion, and lack of investment for these communities. Intentional focus and investment is required to address these disparities, and TOTG is dedicated to fighting for mitigations and solutions.
Vision Zero
Championing policies and projects that help meet the goal of zero traffic deaths or serious injuries by 2035 through safety improvements, multimodal infrastructure, traffic calming, and education.
Complete and Connected Sidewalk and Cycling Networks
Advocating for increased, sustained funding for projects that increase safety for all, particularly pedestrians and cyclists. This includes advocating for new Streets Levy dollars for the City of Tacoma.
Investment in Local Transit
Pierce Transit receives half the funding of peer agencies in our region, meaning Pierce County residents don’t get the quality of service they deserve. We want more buses, more often across the system, and are ready to support Pierce Transit in pursuing additional local funding.
Delivery of Regional Transit
Fighting for Sound Transit projects in Pierce County, including investment in multimodal safety improvements. Our top Sound Transit priorities are:
- Get light rail to Tacoma Dome, no more delays.
- Advance study for the TCC extention of the T-Line.
- Invest in more Sounder South trips and the extention to DuPont.
- Invest in safety improvements, not parking
Safety Improvements on SR-7
Pacific Avenue / State Route 7 is one of the most dangerous roadways in Washington state, particularly in the Parkland & Spanaway area. In 2025, WSDOT installed new signalized crossings along the unincorporated section of SR-7. This is a tremendous win after years of advocacy, but there’s still a lot of work to do.
